Imran disqualification case: SC again dissatisfied from PTI counsel?s response

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday once again stated that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf lawyer failed to give a satisfactory response in the Imran Khan disqualification case. The apex court resumed today the hearing of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Hanif Abbasi?s petition seeking Chairman PTI Imran Khan?s disqualification. The PTI chief's counsel, Naeem Bukhari, presented his arguments before a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar and comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Umar Ata Bandial. During his arguments, PTI counsel Naeem Bukhari said that an email has been sent to Imran?s former wife Jemima Khan. Jemima has confirmed receiving 75,000 pounds, said Bukhari, adding that she has assured that she will send the bank details after finding them. Justice Umar said that the documents do not prove that Imran Khan brought money back from London. Meanwhile, Abbasi's counsel Akram Sheikh said that the bank statement submitted by Imran is of May 19, 2017 although the case is years old. The Chief Justice in his remarks said that it was a simple case but it has been made so much complicated. The CJ further said that the responsibility of providing evidence regarding financial transactions is of Imran Khan. Naeem Bukhari said that regarding the Niazi Services Limited ownership he will soon give a complete reply. The petition The petition seeks the disqualification of Imran Khan and PTI Secretary General Jahangir Tareen for the non-disclosure of assets, ownership of offshore companies and for PTI being a foreign-funded party. Disqualification case: Imran's counsel fails to satisfy Supreme Court The petition was filed by PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi and seeks Imran's disqualification On September 23, Abbasi submitted documents in the Supreme Court containing tax returns provided by Imran to the Election Commission of Pakistan in his nomination papers for the 2003-2006 period. The documents submitted by Abbasi included financial details of the sale of Imran?s London apartment in 2004. The documents also do not have any mention of a loan taken from Imran?s former wife Jemima Khan for the PTI chief's Bani Gala residence. In one of the previous hearings, Justice Bandial observed that a discrepancy exists between documents submitted by the PTI chairman earlier and now. Moreover, the chief justice observed during the course of hearing that the PTI chairman has submitted copies of documents that are unverified.
