Qualcomm Wants To Ban iPhone X Sales
Apple and Qualcomm are known to be adversaries where each company tries to sue each other for some claim or the other. It came to a point that both companies tried to sue each other on the same day. Apple sued Qualcomm over the company's Snapdragon chipsets whereas Qualcomm sued Apple for a range of things. © YouTube How things stand today, Qualcomm is suing Apple for a violation of at least 16 patents that have been used in the iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus and the X. Some of these patents include the camera autofocus feature, power-saving methods and some interfaces. A complaint was registered with the US International Trade Commission citing all 16 patents and if Qualcomm wins the claim, importing of iPhone X and other models would be in jeopardy. © YouTube Amongst other patents, Qualcomm also claims that Apple violated a functionality that lets users respond to a call with a text. Other in hand features were also violated such as clicking the power button to end a call. “All of these Palm inventions—owned by Qualcomm—have vastly improved the functionality of mobile devices and the user experience, and all of them are widely found in Apple products without license or permission,” the complaint reads. A lot of the complaints involves features and components that are highly important for smartphones. Almost a year ago, Apple responded aggressively to the San Diego company by filing a $1 billion lawsuit and also cut off royalty payments. Qualcomm has persisted to challenge Apple with lawsuits of their own and remain adamant to claims that Apple's products “would lose much of their consumer appeal” without Qualcomm technologies.” © Apple Apple has not commented on the complaints yet and it seems like Qualcomm is not going to stop pursuing them anytime soon. There is a good chance that Apple might be unable to sell the iPhone 8 and X until the issue is resolved in or out of court. Until then, we can just wait and see what the outcome is going to be.
